Sadiq School :: Methodologies

Sadiq School’s mission is to use proven methodologies currently implemented within the educational system and further enhance students’ learning with more effective research-based and recognized approaches. Our teachers focus on student-centered learning, using highly organized inquiry-based lessons with the ability to adapt based on student performance. In the early years, instructional material and lesson plans are based off (but not limited to) research from Carl Rogers, Charlotte Mason and Maria Montessori. Our collaborative approach allows students and instructors to work together during learning experiences with students driving most of the structured lessons. Teachers at Sadiq School strive in teaching and learning excellence and promise to continually improve through various professional development opportunities. We are deeply committed to the spiritual and intellectual growth of every student, helping your child reach his/her fullest potential.

Teaching

It is imperative to lay a strong foundation of wanting and loving to learn during the early years in a child’s life. At Sadiq School, we believe that a research-based and hands-on program with a strong focus on skills and knowledge will help us achieve this goal. Our curriculum features a rigorous approach to all academic disciplines, which emphasizes conceptualization, proficiencies and comprehension in each academic area. Students receive large-group, small-group, and one-on-one direct instruction as required. The teachers at Sadiq School aim for excellence by helping all students achieve grade-level mastery in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Physical Education. We provide daily tutoring by adjusting the student learning objectives in weekly schedules. As needed, our teachers provide supplemental resources to help support and further enhance students’ learning experiences.

Curriculum

Sadiq School curriculum is designed in two measures; New Jersey Core Curriculum (NJCC) along with an Islamic Education Program. The New Jersey Core Curriculum is designed to encourage critical thinking and application of acquired knowledge and skills. Designing our curriculum in accordance to the standards set forth by the NJCC allows Sadiq School to provide a proven framework for academic success in accordance to the New Jersey Department of Education.

In addition, our Islamic education will provide students with the skills and knowledge to have a deep understanding of their religious beliefs, including their Creator, the Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahlul-Bayt, and become active and productive participants in their communities.

Islamic Education

Sadiq School’s Islamic Education program will be using curricula designed by recognized Islamic schools such as SABA and Wali ul Asr. It is our vision to guide and nurture students to become role models who exhibit high levels of God-consciousness, professional excellence, and civic leadership by serving society at large. At Sadiq School, students learn to become responsible and productive members of the society through a faith-based education promoting tolerance, peace and justice. Students will achieve a holistic understanding of themselves by deepening their understanding of their Creator, the Quran, teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahlul-Bait.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM)

Our curriculum is designed to integrate STEAM subjects into various education-relevant disciplines. These programs aim to teach students to think critically using technology or engineering while building on students’ scientific and mathematical base. The program allows for the integration of art to further enhance the learning experience by drawing on design principles encouraging creative solutions. Sadiq School students will learn by inventing, creating and designing.

English Language Arts (ELA)

English Language skills are an essential part of the Sadiq School curriculum. We use a balanced approach by combining all elements of English Language Arts in our teaching and learning activities. For each part, we use direct teaching methods and multiple age-appropriate tools to build the foundations of the English Language. In early years, we emphasize developing solid foundations of reading by reading aloud, print and phonetic awareness. Our program also supports reading fluency for initial readers, comprehension strategies and skills, spelling and writing.

  • Writing English: The curriculum of Sadiq School aims to have enthusiastic writers who weave writing activities into their play. Teachers of Sadiq School use age-appropriate writing programs and sufficient reinforcement to strengthen fine-motor skills in students.
  • Reading Comprehension: Our teachers design formal and informal strategies to enhance a student’s ability to comprehend both simple and complex reading. Classroom strategies include reading aloud, demonstrating oral presentations, memorizing and reciting poems and pieces of literature, class discussions and assignments focused on deriving the main ideas of passages, understanding the tone of the author, literal and figurative meanings, literary techniques, the themes of literary works, and processing written information. Our phonetic books emphasize reading, learning and reinforcement. This program provides teachers with supervised workshops and independent work time for students. Our program also comes with workbooks for reinforcement and practice at home.

Mathematics

Our curriculum strives to lay a concrete foundation in mathematics. Teachers at Sadiq School are committed to developing mastery of grade-level appropriate mathematic skills. The core Mathematics curriculum is based on New Jersey Student Learning Standards and requires students to face and solve analytical challenges in practical life. Teachers use group problem-solving to stimulate students to apply their mathematical thinking skills. The Program in Mathematics provides teacher assistance and supervision which helps children enhance their learning experiences through stimulating and engaging activities. Our direct and small group teaching strategies promotes conceptualization with real-life examples.

Science:

Our science curriculum is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Teachers at Sadiq School follow a real life, hands-on and minds-on approach. We use the scientific method to approach discovery in practical life. We strive to practice knowledge, skills and application in our science curriculum. In our early years, we have designed our program to arise curiosity, motivate discovery and challenge children to seek information about the world around them. Our curriculum aims to help students develop more sophisticated ways to think about the core ideas of Science. Additionally, our methods strive to provide kinesthetic learning, which involves students carrying out physical activities and participate in active learning, rather than simply listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations passively.

Social Studies:

In early years, Sadiq School teaches history, geography and world cultures combined with social studies. Children are introduced to history and cultures by stories (folk tales, legends, myths, accounts of historical events, and biographies). By third grade, we introduce separate studies for each aspect of social studies. The curriculum reflects the guidelines of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for social studies. Our program provides hands on student-lead learning, including physical activity and exploration.

World Languages:

Following the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content standards for world languages, Sadiq School teaches the language of the Quran, Arabic, beginning at the Pre-Kindergarten level. Students are introduced to the Arabic language through various opportunities to maximize their exposure to the sounds, spellings and comprehension of the new language. Teachers use manipulatives, audio/visual aids and reinforce practice of oral expression, reading with correct pronunciation and listening with comprehension. We bring in native speakers to further enhance our learning.

Health and Physical Education:

Sadiq School’s Health and Physical Education program is designed according to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. We teach health and physical education combined with the appropriate science. Our aim is to provide structured physical activity classes for children through fun and interactive activities. We strive to develop our students gross and fine motor skills, create lasting friendships through personal development and team building exercises, and achieve and maintain lifelong physical health.

Character Education

Character Education allows individuals within a community to understand and practice core values such as citizenship, respect, trust, civic-virtue and responsibility for self and others. Sadiq School offers an enriched Character Education curriculum while fostering ethics, moral and social responsibility. Our program in Character Education encompasses American-Muslim morals/values, collaboration with members of other communities and teamwork within the school. Sadiq School will engage students in enrichment activities to help them succeed as good citizens, admirable samaritans, exemplary role models, and kindhearted Muslims.
